Flores Urges Obama Justice Department to Abide by Supreme Court Ruling

Statement

Date: July 26, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-TX) issued the following statement today in response to Attorney General Eric Holder's announcement that the Obama Justice Department will continue to target Texas.

"Texas has continually been a partisan political target for the Obama Administration and his lead henchman, Attorney General Eric Holder. The Supreme Court was clear in its recent ruling that voided the outdated formula for Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This provision, based upon decades-old, outdated data, required special federal scrutiny for state and local voting rights laws and electoral changes. Despite the Supreme Court's decision, Attorney General Eric Holder has made clear that he will use his office for partisan politics and once again target Texas. Every citizen in our nation has a sacred right to vote and Texans take pride in the fact that we are ensuring that every legal vote is counted. The Obama Justice Department and Eric Holder cannot ignore the rule of law and a Supreme Court ruling. Attorney General Eric Holder has lied to Congress, engaged in cover-ups, ignored both our laws and our Constitution, and has been held in contempt of Congress; he should be fired immediately and I will redouble my efforts to have him terminated from the payroll of law-abiding, hardworking American taxpayers."
